NASHUA- Vito A. Caprio, 86, died peacefully on Monday evening, April 17, 2017 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary C. (D’Arcy) Caprio, who predeceased him in 2007. They shared 33 beautiful years of marriage together before her passing.

Vito was born in Portland, ME on May 18, 1930 and was the son of the late Alfred and Julia (Giannino) Caprio. He moved to Nashua when he was three years old and attended Nashua schools. He was a graduate of Nashua High School with the class of 1948, and following high school he proudly served his country in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged.

Vito took over his father’s business and was the proud owner of Carter’s Men Shop and expanded the clothing store be well-known in Nashua and the surrounding area. In his later years, he also worked as a real estate agent, and owned Carter’s Real Estate until his retirement.

In his free time, he was an avid baseball fan. Vito enjoyed watching and attending Red Sox games and was a season ticket holder for many years. He always loved playing his saxophone, which is an instrument that he learned at a young age. Vito played in the US Army band while serving, and in his later years played with various bands in the Nashua area. He was a devoted and longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Nashua and was very involved and supportive of the NH Right to Life. Vito also loved traveling with his wife, Mary, to many different destinations following their retirement. Above all, his most cherished time was spent with his family, especially time with his grandchildren.

Vito was predeceased by his son Alfred Caprio in 1991. He is survived by two children: Jacinta Lang and her husband David of Merrimack, and Frank Caprio and his wife Christine of Hudson; his five grandchildren: Michael and Catherine Lang of Merrimack, and John, Benjamin, and Katherine Caprio of Hudson. He is also survived by his three sisters: Celia Rocco and her husband Dr. Angelo Rocco of Exeter, NH; Phyllis Mavrikis and her husband James of Hillsboro Beach, FL;  and Theresa Murchie and her husband Gerald of Boca Raton, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Vito’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers who took care of Vito in his home, and showed him care and compassion for the past six years.

Vito and his wife Mary were supporters of many charitable organizations, including St. Joseph Hospital and its mission, as well as their beloved parish, Immaculate Conception Church.  One of their gifts to the hospital was the beautiful wood carving of St. Joseph the Worker that is in the hospital lobby.  Vito's love of music inspired him to help his parish acquire a new organ and new pianos for the church and chapel.

In lieu of flowers, Vito's family suggests a donation in Vito’s memory to: St. Joseph Hospital Foundation Department, 172 Kinsley Street, Nashua, NH 03060; or to Immaculate Conception Parish, 216 E. Dunstable Road, Nashua, NH  03062.
