Dr. Walter Joel Rubinstein, 86, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 1, 2018. Son of David and Mazie Rabins and brother of Richard Rubinstein, Walter is survived by his wife of 63 years Marcia, his children Karen and Mitchell, and his grandchildren Rachel, Evan and Todd.
Raised in Brooklyn NY, Walter attended Stuyvesant High School, and then Columbia University, where he was a starting fencer for Columbia’s NCAA national championship teams in 1951 and 1952. After graduating from Columbia’s College of Dental Medicine, Walter served as a dentist in the United States Public Health Service, and in the United States Coast Guard. He and Marcia were married in 1954. He practiced dentistry in New York City until his retirement in 2015.
A memorial service celebrating Walter’s life will be held on Sunday, July 15th at 11:00 AM at the Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation in Old Westbury, New York.
Walter was a passionate supporter of the arts and public television, and donations in his memory can be made to Tanglewood (through BSO.org), or to PBS Public Television at THIRTEEN.org
