NASHUA—James “Jim” Grondin, born in Nashua, NH, on December 13, 1934, passed away on February 12, 2019 at Community Hospice House in Merrimack surrounded by his loving family. Jim was married to Viola (DiPietro) Grondin with whom he would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on July 11, 2019.
Jim was born in Nashua on December 13, 1934 and was the son of the late Albert and Mary (Monaghan) Grondin.
After graduating from Nashua High School in 1952, Jim proudly served in the Untied States Navy from 1952-1955, as a gunner on the U.S.S. Des Moines. Following his military service, Jim studied at Northeastern University and Lowell Technical. He joined Nashua Corporation, as a Supervisor of Planning and Control. Later, Jim co-owned the R&J Roofing company, which he later sold to his partner due to a debilitating illness. After recovering, Jim joined the family business, Antique Furniture Refinishing of Nashua, until his retirement
As a young man, Jim loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed vacations with family and friends in Canada, Europe and the US, including the Hawaiian Islands. Jim was an avid Red Sox, Patriot and Celtic fan. He loved to watch ballgames, read mystery novels, swim, garden, and relax at home with friends and family.
Besides his wife, James is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Dufour of Hudson, N.H., his grandchildren Jonathan Dufour of Merrimack, NH and Katherine Dufour of Hudson, NH, his god-daughter Angelica and her husband Paul Scannell of Nashua and their son, Samuel. He is also survived by his sister Theresa Davis of Dunstable, MA, and his -in-laws Gloria Dobens of Nashua, Anthony and Cynthia DiPietro of Nashua, as well as Elaine and Robert Leys and Dolores and Donald Soucy, formerly of Hudson, NH and currently residing in Punta Gorda, Florida and Karen DiPietro of Denton, Texas and many loving nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Florence Jeannotte and Agnes Soucy, his brother Nelson Grondin, brothers-in-law, John DiPietro, Frank DiPietro, Richard DiPietro, John Dobens, Joseph Soucy and Cliff Davis.
Jim was a thoughtful, generous, and selfless man. He was loved was respected by all who knew him. Jim will be missed by all.
Per Jim’s request, there will are no visiting hours. Jim’s Funeral Mass will begin at 10 A.M. on Saturday February 16, 2019 in ST. PATRICK CHURCH, 29 Spring St., Nashua, please meet at church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Derry St., Hudson, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to Home Health and Hospice c/o Development, 7 Executive Park Dr., Merrimack, NH 03054.
