NASHUA-Robert Garcia, age 66, died unexpectedly at his home in Nashua on January 15, 2019. He was born in Havana, Cuba on November 24, 1952, to Antonio and Victoria (Cabrera) Garcia. The family immigrated to the United States in 1961 and ultimately settled in West Hartford, CT. It was there he met his future wife, Gayle (Andrews) Garcia, who lived across the street; they were married in 1972.
Robert graduated from Conard High School in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army from 1972-1974 and later received a bachelor’s degree from UCONN in 1980. He was employed as an electrical engineer at Lockheed/Sanders until 1995 when he sustained a spinal cord injury, resulting in paraplegia.
Prior to his injury, Robert was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hiking and camping. He enjoyed photography and especially liked to capture nature landscapes and his family. Robert also had a green thumb and spent much time tending to his vegetable garden and fruit trees. More recently, he explored new hobbies like building model planes, experimenting in the kitchen and hand cycling.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, formerly of Miami Beach, FL. He is survived by his wife, Gayle, two daughters, Lorrie Garcia of Goffstown and Kelly Garcia and her husband Nick Naylor of Nashua, two granddaughters and his sister, Rebeca Garcia, of Palmetto, FL. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life on Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 2 to 4 pm at Anctil-Rochette & Son Funeral Home, 21 Kinsley St. Nashua. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert’s name to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
