Walter Markewich Obituary

Walter Faustyn Markewich, 90, of Nashua died Saturday, March 16th, 2019 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. He was born on July 24, 1928 in Nashua to Josephine (Stuczynski) Markewich and John Markewich.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Bernice (Juraga) Markewich who passed away October 21, 2012, as well as his beloved brother John Markewich.

Walter is survived by his two daughters, Karen Lemieux and her husband, Robert of Nashua, Sandra Harotunian and her husband, Robert of Sedona, Arizona, his son, Walter and his partner, John Regan of Nashua, his grandson, Adam Lemieux and his wife, Danielle and sisters, Vicky and her husband Robert Poliquin of Palm Bay, Florida and the late Connie Hamel of Nashua.

Walter lived in Nashua his entire life and attended local schools.  As a young man, he joined the Navy and served aboard the Robert H. McCard DD822, the USS Yellowstone AD27 and the USS Sierra AD18.  He married Bernice in 1948 and they had three children. He worked at the Spaulding Metal Works, Rogers Brothers and was later self-employed installing ceramic tile.  He also worked at Micronetics and the Green Meadow Golf Course in Hudson, NH.

Walter had an uncanny ability to remember every detail of his life experiences.  He loved talking about his childhood days and family life on their modest farm.  Walter could always find a new story to tell about his work, family and friends and he loved talking about Nashua’s rich history.

He also loved helping people and became a valuable handy-man for many friends and relatives.  Above all, Walter loved his work and only found time to vacation after retirement when he visited Florida relatives and traveled to Poland.

At Walter’s request there will be no visiting hours. His burial, with military honors, will take place at the Saint Stanislaus Cemetery on Pinehill Road, Nashua on June 6th at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Home Health & Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Dr, Merrimack, NH 03054.
