Agatha Alice (Snyder) Oertel, 82, of Nashua, NH, died peacefully on December 31, 2024 at Fairview Nursing Home after a period of declining health. Born in Kingston, NY in 1942, she was the daughter of the late John I. and Agatha Flick Snyder. She graduated from the State University of New York at New Paltz, earning a BA in English and an MS in Education, and from Georgetown Visitation Junior College in Washington, DC.
Agatha Oertel taught fourth grade for 10 years at St. Joseph Elementary School in Kingston, NY and kindergarten for 20 years at Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Vienna, VA. She enjoyed ballet, swimming and spending time with her three grandchildren, who called her Mompom. She particularly loved learning about sports and trying new restaurants with them.
Agatha was devoted to her Catholic faith, praying the rosary daily and joining the life of her parish.
Survivors include her daughter, Agatha Connelly, son-in-law Joseph Connelly, and grandchildren Adam, Ryan, and Rebecca Connelly. She is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Joseph Oertel, and brothers John M and Frederick Snyder.
Relatives and friends are invited to Agatha's visitation on SATURDAY, January 4th from 9 AM until 9:45 AM at St. John Neuman Church. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 AM at St. John Neumann Church,708 Milford Road, Merrimack, NH. Her interment will follow at St. Louis de Gonzague Cemetery, Nashua. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
