Obituary

NASHUA, N.H.-Carmen Y. Blushiy ,85, of Nashua, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2023.  She was the beloved wife of Frank M. Blushiy, who predeceased her on November 22, 1996.

Carmen was born in Nashua, N.H. on June 2, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Severain L. and Rose Anna (Levesque) Lavallee.

Carmen graduated from St. Louis de Gonzague High School in 1955.  She then attended St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing and graduated from the 3 year RN diploma program in 1958.  Carmen worked as an RN at St. Joseph Hospital and later at Southern NH Medical Center, formerly known as Nashua Memorial Hospital.  Carmen left the work force to become a stay at home Mom.  In 1979, she returned to her profession full time as an RN, working in various nursing homes both in Nashua and Manchester until her retirement in 2002.    After retirement, she did volunteer work and loved to take trips to the beach with her friends and cook large dinners for her friends and family.  She will be most remembered for her famous salmon pies and tourtieres (her French Canadien meat pies).

Carmen was a communicant of St. Louis de Gonzague Church. She had a beautiful voice which she happily shared as a member of the St. Louis choir.  Carmen also served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD.  As a woman with a deep faith, she became a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order in 1974.  She also belonged to the Grey Nuns Association (ASMY), the Ladies Guild, and the Ladies of St. Anne.

Carmen enjoyed spending time playing the piano and listening to classical music. She also enjoyed watching a good movie, playing scrabble or doing a crossword puzzle.  Above all else, Carmen cherished her time with family and friends.

Carmen is survived by her two sons; David Soucy of Swanzey, NH and John Soucy of Nashua, NH; four grandchildren, Brittney, Samantha, Tabitha, and Holly Anne; six great-grandchildren, Savannah, Malia, Tallon, Marrisseau, Garth and Joey; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
