Obituary

Carol (Fitzpatrick) Micalizzi, 83, died on October 7, 2026, in Statesville, North Carolina. She was born in Biddeford, Maine, on December 21, 1942, the daughter of the late Lucille (Gaudette) Fitzpatrick Reynolds and the late John Fitzpatrick.

Mrs. Micalizzi lived in Nashua for most of her life. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and St. Patrick's Church, and graduated from Nashua High School in 1960. She earned a BA in Sociology and an MEd in Counseling from Rivier College, and held a state certification as a Specialist in Assessment of Intellectual Functioning (SAIF), which qualified her to conduct intelligence testing in the school system. She also did part-time testing for the Psychological Corporation and Brookside Hospital.

She retired from the Nashua School District, where she worked as an elementary school guidance counselor and school teacher. She also held various positions with other companies in the Nashua area. She was a retired member of the Nashua and New Hampshire State Teachers' Associations and the Nashua Teachers' Union, and a member of the national and state counselor associations. Drawing on her counseling background, she volunteered with community support groups, including as a member of a group in Londonderry, NH, and as a past director of a regional divorce and separation support program based in Lowell, MA.

After retirement, Carol traveled extensively across the country with her dear friend and companion, the late Daniel Thurston. They visited family and friends in California, Texas, Maine, and Virginia, and used her time-share to tour even more of the country. They also spent time at her home in North Carolina, where Carol learned to play cribbage. In recent years she attended St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Statesville, NC.

Mrs. Micalizzi is survived by her three sons and their families: David and his wife Kallie Micalizzi of Boston, MA, and their daughter, Kristina Venemies and her husband Tommi Venemies of Washington, DC; Kevin Micalizzi, his husband, Matthew Turner, and their son, Garreth Turner, of Portland, OR; and Brian Micalizzi and his wife, Mona Kasik, of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by two sisters and their families, Joan and Anthony Matarazzo of Nashua, NH, and Joyce Cushman of Naples, FL; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles; and her former in-laws. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Billy Cushman.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Jessica and Jeff Galliher and their children for the love, kindness, and devoted care they showed Mrs. Micalizzi over the years. They held a special place in her heart, and their compassion and dedication will be remembered with deep gratitude.

Relatives and friends are invited to Carol’s visitation on FRIDAY, November 6th from 10 until 11 AM in Parish of the Resurrection Church, 449 Broad Street, Nashua. Her Funeral Mass will be held in the church at 11 AM. Interment to follow in St. Louis Cemetery, Nashua. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the charity of your choice.
