Joseph A. Catalano, affectionately known as “Joe Cat,” 83, passed away on October 28, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua. Born on March 12, 1943, in Arlington, Massachusetts, Joe was the son of John Catalano and Angela McGonigle (Sola).
He was the beloved husband of Anita L. (Zito) Catalano, with whom he shared over 65 years of love, companionship, and memories. Joseph always made time for Anita, even when she was enjoying time camping with their children and grandchildren at Salisbury Beach Reservation. Whether it meant spending a Wednesday out striper fishing before making his way to the campground to join everyone for dinner or simply swinging by to visit Anita and share a meal, Joseph treasured those moments together. No matter where his fishing adventures took him, he always made time to be with the woman he loved and the family they built together.
Joseph was the proud owner of Granite State Rod & Reel Repair, which he established in 1967. His dedication to his business reflected his love of fishing, a passion that began when he was very young and remained an important part of his life throughout the years.
An avid fisherman, Joe could often be found fishing at lakes throughout New Hampshire and, in his younger years, at his favorite spots in Massachusetts. Fishing was more than just a hobby for Joseph; it was a way of life and a passion he proudly passed down to his family, creating lasting memories and traditions that will be cherished for generations.
Beyond fishing, Joseph enjoyed a good meal and the simple pleasures of life spent with family and those he loved. He had a true love for food, and those who knew Joe will remember that sometimes his enjoyment of a good meal was evident not just in his smile, but on his shirt as well. It was just one of those little things that made Joe who he was and brought a smile to those around him. His warmth, character, and love for life's simple pleasures made him a special part of the lives of all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Anita, Joseph is survived by his children Gina Catalano and her husband Rodney Towne of New Boston, Joseph E. Catalano and his wife Cindy of Nashua, Lisa Catalano and her fiancé Dana Longtin of Pelham, and Anita Poulin and her significant other Irving Chapman of Nashua; his grandchildren Sabrina Catalano, Trevor Poulin and his wife Danielle, Victoria Poulin and her fiancé Nick Mazola, and Angelina Marzzi and her significant other Rockey; his brother James McGonigle and his wife Patti of Billerica; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Jack Catalano and uncle Herbie Corner.
Family and friends are invited to Joseph’s visitation on THURSDAY, November 5th from 4 until 7 PM at ROCHETTE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 21 Kinsley Street, Nashua. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 6:45pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to NH Junior Bass Masters by venoming @nhjuniorbassmasters
