Obituary

Leonard R. Berube, 89, died peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at Crestwood Nursing Home in Milford, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Claire G. (Levesque) Berube with whom he shared 42 years of marriage prior to her passing in 1997.

Lenny was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on September 27, 1933 and was the son of the late Antonio and Marie Rose (Morrissette) Berube. He received his education in the Nashua School System and was a graduate of Nashua High School with the class of 1951.

After graduating high school, he worked for Guimond & Hebert as a mechanic. For 20 years, he was proudly employed by Nashua Fire Department as a firefighter driving the Tiller truck and later, Ladder 2.  He ended his career in 1980 as a mechanic, known as M2, working on firetrucks. After his retirement, he went to work for Rivier College in the maintenance department.

In his free time, Lenny was an avid sports fan of his beloved Red Sox as well as the Boston Bruins and New England Patriots. He enjoyed traveling in his RV and camping with his family and friends. He was a member of the Retired Firefighters Association as well as The Club National. Above all, he truly cherished time spent with his family at countless cookouts and pool parties. He never missed an opportunity to host a family get-together.

He is survived by his four children, Sharon MacDonald and her husband Richard of Townsend, MA, Linda Vaillancourt and her husband Dennis of Henniker, NH, Claudette Mitchell and her husband Brian of Fredericksburg, VA, and Raymond Berube and his wife Kim of Nashua; his nine grandchildren, Adam MacDonald and his wife Melissa, Krystina Wojcik and her husband Kevin, Scott MacDonald and his wife Kayla, Nikki Chapman and her husband Jeremy, Shawn Vaillancourt and his wife Natasha, Brianne Diehl and her husband Joshua, Matthew Mitchell and his wife Valerie, Jessica Berube and Christopher Berube. He is also survived by his 20 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister Lorraine Garneau and her husband William.

Relatives and friends are invited to Leonard's Funeral Mass on TUESDAY, June 6th 10 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 777 W Hollis Street, Nashua. His interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery, Nashua. Arrangements entrusted to the care of ROCHETTE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 21 Kinsley Street, Nashua. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leonard's name to the American Foundation for the Blind, 1108 Third Avenue, Suite 200, Huntington, WV 25701 or to Fire Relief Association, 70 E Hollis Street, Nashua, NH 03060
