Richard “Rich” E. Chateauneuf, 64, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 3, 2026. He is the beloved husband of Christine Chateauneuf.
Rich was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and was the son of the late Leo and Alice Chateauneuf. He was a graduate of Lowell Vocational High School in Tyngsboro, MA.
For many years, Rich worked as a locksmith for Raytheon, where he proudly provided his expertise and services to the company’s various locations throughout Massachusetts. A skilled and dependable professional, Rich took great pride in his work.
In his free time, Rich was a true outdoorsman who loved boating, snowmobiling, and fishing, especially at his family camp in Hermit Cove on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Time at the lake was particularly special to Rich, it was his happy place. He also had a passion for traveling with his wife, Christine, as well as family and friends, creating countless memories along the way. His travels took him to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, the Caribbean and Mexico, as well as other adventures. Rich was also a natural tinkerer who always seemed to have a project underway and enjoyed working with his hands. Above all, his most precious time was spent with his family and friends, whom he loved deeply. He will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love him.
In addition to his wife, Christine, he is survived by his son, Joseph Chateauneuf and his wife Stephanie of South Portland, ME; his two grandchildren, Thomas and Damian; his three siblings, Robert “Bob” Chateauneuf and his wife Janet, Doreen Stopyra, and JoAnn Marcos; his nieces and nephews. Amy Chateauneuf, Samantha Luppold and her husband Bill, Kyle Marcos and his wife Caitlin, Katherine Marcos, Kevin Marcos and his wife Jackie, Nick Chateauneuf, Jackie Searles and her husband Sean, Jonathan Hume, Justin Hume and his wife Alexis, Kevin Hume and his wife Linsey, and Linda Weimer and her husband Michael. He is also survived by his in-laws, Seta Chateauneuf of Cranston, RI, Steve Hume and his wife Carol of Easton, CT, Michael Hume of Wheaton, IL, and John Bahlmann of Plainfield, IL; as well as several great nieces and a great nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Russel Chateauneuf, his brother-in-law, Edward Stopyra, his sisters-in-law, Susan Hume and Dorothy Bahlmann.
Relatives and friends are invited to Rich’s visitation on THURSDAY, October 8th from 5 until 7 PM at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut, MA. His Funeral will be held on FRIDAY, October 9th at 10 AM in St. Mary Magdalen, 95 Lakeview Avenue, Tyngsboro, MA. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH. Cremation will follow.
