Agnes LaCroix Obituary

Agnes M. (Devaney) LaCroix, 88 of Nashua, NH passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at her home.

She was born in Lynn, MA, on October 13,1935, daughter of the late John and Rose (McFarland) Devaney.

Agnes took pride in her well-rounded Catholic education taught by the Notre Dame Sisters at St. Mary’s School in Lynn, MA. Upon graduation she attended comptometer school and used this skill while employed at Hood’s, in Charlestown, MA, where she met John, her husband to be, of 64 years.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and belonged to the Women’s Guild of St. Patrick’s Parish in Nashua, NH

Our memories of Ma could be a litany of self made accomplishments of skills as a homemaker. Being a homemaker was a lifetime employment which she never retired from. She taught herself to sew, she became an exceptional cook, she added warmth to the home with her skill of wallpapering, and the memory of watching her hands kneading dough for homemade bread for her large family or her baked goods for our school lunches. These were just a sample of her many motherly abilities, many of which she passed on to her children. She loved listening to Irish music and it was hard to find Ma without a cup of tea and a listening ear.

Her faith and the devotion to the Holy Rosary which called all of us seven children together every night to gather in the living room with our Dad leading us in prayer together as a family was her greatest accomplishment. She would quote Fr. Patrick Peyton, who said, the family that prays together stays together.

Her legacy will be remembered as her unwavering love for her husband, her devotion to her seven children, her joy of being a Grammy to 17 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

Agnes was preceded in death by her son Daniel F. LaCroix, her grandson Nathan J. LaCroix, and great grandchildren Aubriee LaCroix, Jayden Cantey, and Julian Cantey.

Agnes is survived by her husband John D. LaCroix, her son Joseph LaCroix and his wife Sandy, her son Timothy LaCroix and his wife Christine, her son Paul LaCroix and his wife Monica, her daughter Mary Shattuck and her husband Ken, her son Matthew and his wife Bianca, and her son John LaCroix and his wife Elizabeth. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Her siblings include Eileen Lynch and Francis Devaney. She was also the sister of the late John Devaney, Lawrence Devaney, Joseph Devaney and Leo Devaney.
