Barney Charles Barbera, 81, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 9, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He is the beloved husband of Priscille (Richard) Barbera with whom he shared 59.5 years of marriage.

Barney was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 30, 1942, and was the son of the late Baldassare and Ernestine Dorothy (Lamarie) Luce. He received his education from Manhattan Aviation School, Radio Television Electronics School, and Air Force Institute of Technology graduating with his bachelor’s degree.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from September 22, 1959 until he was honorably discharged on September 20, 1963 with the rank of Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Mission 3 Pilot, Search and Rescue. During his time in the Air Force, Barney was a pilot and retired into Civil Service with the rank of GM 13.

During his time working for the United States Air Force, he was employed as a Program Manager, Director of Business Management and Director of Financial Management where he over saw many projects that required him to travel to places such as California and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Most recently, he worked as a Cost Analyst in the Office of the Comptroller, ESD Hansom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA for 20 years until his retirement.

Barney was very proud of being a US Veteran and had many different affiliations with veteran agencies. He was a member of the American Legion and Post #3 for the last 19 years, holding the positions of Sgt-at-Arms, Chaplain, Sr. Vice Commander, Treasurer and Commander, currently he was serving as the Finance Officer. While a member of the American Legion, Barney also participated in many committees including Awards, Boy State, Budget, By-Laws, Children & Youth, House Committee, Post Insurance, and Scholarship Committee.

He served on the Nashua Parade Committee for 14 years, treasurer for 12 years, as well as Chairman of the Mayor’s Veteran’s Council. Other activities include Boy Scouts of America; the Nashua Senior Activity Center and served on Senior Council; and instructor for the State Department of Fish and Game. Life time member of the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans of America, member of the American Comptrollers Association and Cost Analyst Association.

Although Barney was involved with various organizations, his true passion was fishing. He was a 45 year member of the New Hampshire Bass Busters Club and was an avid fisherman and camper; member of the Rush-N-Geo Camping Club. He also enjoyed golf, playing pool, and playing poker. Above all, his most cherished time was spent with his family who he loved deeply.

In addition to his wife, Priscille, he is survived by his five children, Annamaria Barbera of Weare, NH, Anthony Barbera of Dracut, MA, Lisa Simpson and her husband David Brookline, NH, John Barbera and his wife Tina of Tewksbury, MA and James Barbera and his wife Krista of Hudson, NH; his 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Mason and his wife Samantha, Lindsey, Amber, Bradley, Kyle, Nicholas, Joshua and his wife Ashley, Elizabeth, and Melissa; as well as his two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Charlotte; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two siblings, Joyce Arias and Albert Barbera.

Relatives and friends are invited to Barney’s visitation on MONDAY, November 20th from 4 until 7 PM at ROCHETTE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 21 Kinsley Street, Nashua. His Funeral Mass will be held on TUESDAY, November 21st at 10 AM in St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 777 W Hollis Street, Nashua. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH. His interment and presentation of military honors will be held on TUESDAY, November 21st at 3 PM in the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barney’s name to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
