Donald "Don" Girouard Obituary

HOLLIS, NH  - Donald Girouard, 85, of Hollis, NH passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020. Donald suffered from dementia and came down with COVID-19 which caused his passing. He was the loving husband of Mary Jane (Rioux) Girouard of Hollis for 65 years.

Donald was born in Nashua, NH on August 18, 1934, and was the son of late Agnes Degara and Leo Girouard, Sr.

Don was a longtime resident of Nashua; and graduated from Nashua High School in 1953, in 1954 he attended barber school, where he found one of his greatest passions. Don later moved to Hollis, NH in 2000.

Donald went to become a very well known barber and the owner of Charlie’s Barber Shop on East Pearl Street. He loved his customers; cracking jokes with them all the time and loved hearing theirs. Don would even make house calls when customers were sick and couldn’t make it to the shop. Don eventually retired from barbering in 2011.

Don enjoyed many activities including hunting, fishing, working in his yard, going to the flea markets, yard sales, feeding birds and photography. He was also a lifetime member of the Lone Pine Hunters Club. Don loved sports, especially the Patriots, Red Sox and the Boston Bruins. Telling jokes was his way of connecting with people through laughter. He had a heart of gold and that reflected most of all when he was able to do what he loved most; spend time with his family. Don will forever be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, friend and GREAT barber… and let’s not forget his love for Devil Dogs.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Jane Girouard; his children: Donna King and her husband, Greg, Pat Burns and her husband, Dan, Mike Girouard and his wife, Katherine, Gary Girouard and his wife, Julie; and Paula Simpson and her husband, Ken; his 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Don was predeceased by his brother, Leo Girouard, Jr. and his two special aunts, Clara Malette and Gladys Girouard.
