Edward C. Smith

Edward “Ed/Edgie” C. Smith, 82, of Nashua, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Beverly Smith, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

Born in Lowell, MA, on October 2, 1942, Edward was the son of the late Edward Smith and Helen (Mackey) Smith. As the son of a career Army officer, he spent his early years living in various locations, including Austria, Texas, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

Edward graduated from high school in Ansonia, Connecticut, and continued his education at the Andover Institute of Business. He went on to have a career as a computer programmer, working for NH Insurance Company, Prince Spaghetti and later retired from Purity Supreme.

A proud veteran, Edward served in the Air National Guard for eight years. He brought the same sense of duty and dedication to his community and family life as he did to his service.

Edward and Beverly lived in the same home for 60 years, surrounded by wonderful neighbors. Edward enjoyed a rich and active life. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and he especially loved coaching bowling. Edward could often be found enjoying a card game with family, friends and neighbors, riding his bike with his brothers, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, or cheering on the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Traveling was another passion, but nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family.

Edward is survived by his wife, Beverly; his children, Kimberly Smith of Gilmanton Ironworks, NH, and Lisa Webb and her husband Michael of Hollis, NH; and his cherished grandchildren, Madison Webb, Avery Webb, and Jacob Webb. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Tina.

Edward is also survived by his siblings: Kenneth Smith and his wife Paula of Nashua; Barbara Gowell and her partner Sal Polizzotti of Quincy, MA; Steven Smith of Derry; Richard Smith and his wife Kathy of Dracut, MA; and Beverly Caldwell and her husband Jack of Dracut, MA. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Douglas Gowell.

Ed’s Celebration of Life will be held at The Establishment in North Chelmsford, MA on 9/27, from 1-4pm. Please join us in sharing memories and some of his favorite food. Red Sox and Patriots attire welcomed! In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s memory may be made to the Nashua Soup Kitchen
