Frederick “Fred” Charles Ford, 84, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He is the beloved husband of Roberta “Bobbi” M. (Guillemette) Ford with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Fred was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts on July 13, 1940 and was the son of the late Orville and Helen (Bragg) Ford. He attended high schools in Winthrop and Tewksbury, Massachusetts and was a business major at New Hampshire College (SNHU).
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command during the Vietnam Era until he was honorably discharged in December of 1964.
Fred formerly owned and operated Technicon Inc., an engineering support services company based in New Hampshire and expanding worldwide engineering support services until he sold the company and retired at the age of 60.
Over his lifetime, he enjoyed many things. As a lifelong motorcycle rider, Fred was very proud of his conceptualization and co-founding of the New England Motorcross Association (NEMA); where he also served as it’s first president. He was a proud member of the American Legion, Post 100 in Pelham, NH and a 3rd degree Mason with the Wamesit Masonic Lodge in Tewksbury, MA. In his younger years, he was a Cubscout Master in Lowell. Over the years, he and Bobbi have traveled extensively throughout most of North America, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and Australia.
Following his retirement, Fred and his wife, Bobbi traveled back and forth with their 5th wheel, truck and trailer and motorcycles to Quartzsite, Arizona every winter for 10 years. Fred never took the same route twice; to sightsee every part of the United States. They settled in Port Charlotte, Florida in 2014 after selling their horse farm in Windham, New Hampshire; until Hurricane Ian destroyed their home. They have since resided in their summer home in Hollis, NH. Above all, his most cherished time was spent with his family and circle of friends whom he loved deeply. He will be remembered for his joyous, funny and jokester personality.
In addition to his wife, Bobbi, he is survived by his two children, Craig Ford and his wife Alison of Lowell, MA and Dawn Enwright and her husband Nathan of Londonderry, NH; his six grandchildren, Derek Ford and his wife Amber of Gloucester, MA, Jarrod Ford and his wife Clare of Leominster, MA, Kirsten Enwright, Brendan Enwright and his fiancé Emily Kingston, Cullen Enwright and Devyn Enwright. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Lester Dixon of Pelham, NH; his two nephews, Jonathan Dixon and his wife Sobeya and Thomas Dixon and his wife Jen; and his cousin Bruce Cragin and his wife Tracy.
In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his sister Nancy J. Dixon of Pelham, NH.
Special thanks to the following who all provided critical support when it was needed the most: Bob and Diane Castonguay; VA Support Services, Karen and Shannon; Pathways Hospice, Ann, Jessica, Charles, Natalie, Dennis; and Lyas Helping Hands including Stephanie, Francesca, Ixia, Venessa, and Tinisha.
“I always knew life was a highway with an exit ramp somewhere, we were just expecting it to be further down the road.” -Fred
