Gilbert Laureano Lugo, 72, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Gilbert Laureano was born in 1951 in East Harlem, New York (El Barrio), Spanish Harlem. In 1974, he moved to Puerto Rico to find his roots, where he met his wife Blanca and they had five boys. In the late 90s, he arrived in Nashua, NH, where he passed away surrounded by his wife and five boys. He was the best husband and the most beloved grandfather to his 20 grandkids, who named him BATATA because his first grandchild had difficulty saying Grandpa.
He supported his wife and five children as an independent contractor, working on both commercial and residential projects. He enjoys remodeling, especially at his children's homes. One of his main hobbies was going to Home Depot for his many projects.
He was also an avid percussionist and played his congas and bongos throughout his life. In the 1970s, he witnessed and was present during the renaissance of the Afro-Caribbean music genre known as “Salsa Music.” He is featured in the first music video/documentary of the Salsa band “La Fania All-Stars.” Above all, his most cherished time was spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Blanca, he is survived by his children, Gilbert Laureano and his wife Vanessa from Amherst, NH, Alexander Laureano and his wife Victoria from Nashua, NH, Joebenny Laureano and his wife Melissa from Nashua, NH, Melvin Laureano and his girlfriend Aida from Nashua, NH, and Jonathan Laureano and his wife Paula from Nashua, NH. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nathalia and her husband Sebastian, Melvin, Jonny, Andre, Sophia, Alexavier, Sebastian, Camila, Arian, Josianny, Jerenisse, Melanny, Joby, Jessimel, Talianis, Yaideliz, Joniel, Jozelyn, Natalia, Ariana.
Relatives and friends are invited to Gilbert’s visitation on WEDNESDAY, November 27th from 4 until 6 PM at ROCHETTE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 21 Kinsley Street, Nashua. His Funeral Service will follow in the Funeral Home at 6 PM. Interment will take place at the convenience of his family.
