Jason Bundas Obituary

On Monday, March 3, 2025, Jason Scott Bundas, devoted father, loving son and brother, beloved partner, and friend to all he crossed paths with, passed away at the age of 49.

Jason was born on July 14, 1975 to David and Jean (Cxypoliski) Bundas.  Jason is survived by his father and mother, his son Ian Scott Bundas, his sister Janelle (Bundas) Li and brother-in-law Vee Li, his nephews Axl and Zayn Li, and his much-loved partner Kathleen O’Boyle.

Jason was interested in electronics and computers from an early age.  After graduating from Avon Grove High School in West Grove, PA, he continued his education and earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and his MS in Electrical Engineering from University of Massachusetts Lowell.  He spent his early career at Lockheed Martin and TeraConnect.

In 2003, he co-founded QmagiQ where he was Director of Infrared Systems and built a close work family with his 5 partners over the last two decades.  In the words of his colleagues: “Jason was a gifted engineer, amazing at building cameras, hard-working, imaginative, focused, dedicated, super-creative, with a superb eye for detail and the hands to match.  He was one of the smartest engineers and one of the most quietly decent human beings we have ever met.  Many of his infrared cameras are in use by NASA in ground-based telescopes and on the International Space Station.  Some nights, if you look up at the right spot in the sky, you may see the NASA satellites LANDSAT-8 and LANDSAT-9 which have infrared cameras looking down at our planet.  Jason was crucial in developing and building these special world-first cameras and his initials are etched permanently on each.  It is a tribute to his legacy, and a sign that he lives on, gazing down on us from the sky with his infrared eyes.”

Jason married Diane Hall in 2007, and loved and nurtured his son, Ian Scott Bundas, born in 2009.  Though Diane and Jason parted in 2018, they remained friends and devoted co-parents to Ian.  Jason was enjoying building a life and going on adventures with Kathleen, who brought much joy to him.

Jason enjoyed a great many hobbies. The aforementioned electronics and computers, skiing and snowboarding, jet-skiing, SCUBA, salt-water aquarium cultivation (coral and fish), car racing and repair, parkour both as a practitioner and a teacher, flying, hiking, music, table games, astronomy, collections too varied to list, providing support to local artists, and spending time with those he loved and cared for.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12th, 2025 from 10 AM until 12 PM at the Rochette Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Nashua, NH.  Anyone wishing to share a fond remembrance of Jason is encouraged to do so.  A reception will follow at the home Jason designed, built, and loved in Mason, NH.

In honor and remembrance of Jason, his family requests that you support local artists and make sure to generously tip your servers when you dine out.  Those actions represent values important to Jason and will keep his memory alive.  If you would like to make a donation in his honor, he was drawn to the beauty and rich history of the Manchester Masonic Community Center which is in need of funding to restore it and share its splendor with the world.
