John E. Howard passed away Saturday, May 2, 2024 in Hudson, NH.
John was born in Plattsburgh, NY on November 11, 1945. He had been a resident of Hudson since 1972. He was born into a military family, the oldest of three children, that moved often and received his elementary education in Michigan, Virginia, Germany, Illinois, and New York. He gradauted from Clinton Central High School in Clinton, NY in 1964. He attended Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica,NY and the State University of New York in Plattsburgh, NY.
John had a varied work career before a boyhood passion with history of the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War II, and their firearms led him to a dream career managing a local New Hampshire gun shop and as a firearms historian for several specialty auction houses and other firearms purveyors including J.C. Devine, Amoskeag Auction, RR Auction, and Joe Salter - Down East Antiques.
In his freetime, he followed that same passion, amassed a considerable library of firearms and their history, and enjoyed sharing that knowledge and history with his friends. John was a long time member of the Pelham Fish and Game Club.
He is survived by his brother Michael, nephews Sean and Daryn, nieces Megan and Courteney, grandnephews Corey, Jack and Decker, grandnieces Clohe, Harper and Savannah, and his Aunt Carol MacDonald and her sons, Steve and Scott.
All funeral services will be private. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Rochette Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
