John McQuaid Obituary

John Arthur “Jack” McQuaid passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Born September 6, 1935, Jack was the beloved only child of John F. McQuaid and Gladys, and spoiled by his Aunt Ethel and Uncle Freddie, who lived right next door. He graduated through the Lowell High School, where he met his sweetheart, Barbara. They were married on August 5th, 1956 at St. Michael’s Church. From that day forward, Jack gained 6 siblings in Barbara’s family, who he would fiercely love as his own all his life.

Jack and Barbara were blessed with five children: Cheryl, John, Barbara, Diane, and Michael. They moved to Hudson, NH, where they would spend many happy years in the home Jack built for his family. Their house was a home to many, and their door was always open to anyone who needed them or if you just wanted to stop by. He was proud to work for Raytheon for 38 and a half years as a Senior Contract Administrator in Lexington and Andover. He also served in the Navy Reserves for 8 years. Jack was curious and generous to everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. There was not a problem he could not solve, or a direction he could not give you, especially while driving,

Jack’s true joy was spending a long, sunny weekend up in Maine with Barbie. They would stay at the summer home and cottage in Old Orchard Beach of his sister-in-law Debbie and husband Francis “Grim” Grimshaw, frequently joined by dear friend Nancy and Debbie and Grim’s children. There is not a corner they did not drive to, a bar they did not drink in, or a street they did not walk—just the way life should be.

Jack was married to Barbara for 68 years, their long and happy marriage an inspiration to all who know them. They will tell you the secret to a marriage is to always talk it out and take the vacations you enjoy. And so, they traveled the world together.

The McQuaid family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to the Fairview Nursing Home for all the love and attention provided to Jack during this difficult time.

He is predeceased by his two daughters, Cheryl and Barbara, and his son Michael.

He is missed desperately by his wife, Barbara, and mourned deeply by his son John E. McQuaid and wife Rosalie; daughter Diane Gauthier and husband Norman; grandchildren Nicole Blake and husband Sean and their three children; Brent Gauthier and his son; Andrew McQuaid and wife Alyssa; Ian McQuaid and wife Crystal and their two children; Douglas McQuaid; Gordon McQuaid; Ryann McQuaid and wife Hannah. And of course, his beloved dog Franklin. No amount of time would have been enough, and we are lucky to have had you for as long as we did.

All funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of ANCTIL-ROCHETTE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 21 Kinsley Street, Nashua. Out of respect to the McQuaid family, there will be a private family burial. There will not be calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s name to Fairview Nursing Home.
