Kanwaljit Singh “Kamal” Mangat, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. He is the beloved husband of Mandeep Kaur “Mickey” (Khatra) Mangat with whom he shared 31 years of marriage.
Kamal was born in Calcutta, India on October 30, 1961 and was the son of the late Sardar Narinder Singh Mangat and Sardarni Jasmer Kaur (Dhanoa) Mangat. He grew up in Chandigardh and spent summers in Calcutta with his loved ones. After receiving his education in Banglore, he settled in New Delhi and then Ludhiana with his wife and kids.
He immigrated to the United States in 2007 with his family, and worked really hard to put roots down in Acton, Massachusetts and then settling in Hudson, New Hampshire.
Kamal will be remembered for the remarkable, tender human he was. He loved to connect with people from different backgrounds, for example, by greeting in their native language or by cracking a joke. He had a breadth of knowledge of history and current events which he openly shared with others through great storytelling. He showed genuine curiosity about the wellbeing of his family and friends, always inquiring about the littlest of details and providing guidance. He brought lightheardedness and good humour but left nuggets of wisdom. When he loved someone or something, he loved them with all his heart. He will be truly missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
In addition to his wife, Kamal is survived by his two children, Tanvir Singh Mangat and Jasmine Kaur Mangat, both of Hudson; his three siblings, Pradeep Kaur “Bavi” Bains, Sarabjeet Singh “Shami” Mangat, and Milipreet Kaur “Bittu” Mangat Chahal; as well as many nieces and nephews. He also loved his late sister, Sumeet Kaur “Meeta” Mangat.
