Lawrence "Larry" Illis Bird Obituary
Lawrence Illis “Larry” Bird, 75, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 16, 2026. He is the beloved husband of Cecile I. (Marquis) Bird with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Larry was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on January 2, 1951 and was the son of the late Illis Lawrence and Mae E. (Levesque) Bird. He received his education in the Nashua School System and was a graduate of Nashua High School.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War. His time in service reflected his deep sense of duty, commitment, and love for his nation. He carried the values of honor and dedication with him throughout his life, and upon completing his service, he was honorably discharged.
For many years he worked in construction, most recently he was employed as a supervisor for Maple Leaf Construction until his retirement.
In his free time, Larry was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in fishing and hunting, embracing the peace and simplicity of nature. He also had a deep passion for cars, taking great pride in them and spending many hours as a self-taught “backyard mechanic,” always ready to tinker and fix what he could. His talents didn’t stop there; Larry was an exceptionally skilled handyman, and there was very little he couldn’t repair or figure out. When it came time to relax, he enjoyed a good Western movie, especially any starring his favorites, Clint Eastwood and John Wayne. Above all, Larry treasured the time he spent with his family, whom he loved deeply and wholeheartedly. He will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
In addition to his wife Cecile of Hollis, he is survived by his two sons, James Bird and his wife Bridgette Nicolace of Columbia, SC and Brandon Bird of Goffstown; his six grandchildren, Alexis, Jameison, Brynn, Nicolace, Cohen, and Dylan. He is also survived by his two sisters, Carol Despathy and her husband Robert of Candia and Karen Ingram of Nashua; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Larry was predeceased by his brother, Maurice Paradise.
At the request of Larry and his family, all services were held privately.
