On Saturday, October 10, 2020 MSG (Ret) Michael James Canavan Sr, loving husband and father of four sons, passed away at the age of 69.

Mike was born on November 9, 1950 in Nashua, NH to Arnold and Alice (Vander-Heyden) Canavan. Mike graduated from Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, NH in 1968 and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army for 15 years. After leaving active duty, he went on to serve an additional 15 years in the New Hampshire Army National Guard. He raised his four sons – Bill, Scott, Matt, and Michael Jr – with his first wife, Denise (Bosse). As a civilian, Mike continued an impressive career in the defense industry.

Mike was a man of many talents and would regularly paint, draw, carve wood, and craft chainmail. His artistic ability was admired by many and he took great joy in hand making gifts for friends and family alike. Mike was also known for helping all who needed it, something he instilled in his children.

Mike was preceded in death by his father Arnold, his mother Alice, and his brother Dennis. He is survived by his wife Denise (L'Heureux), his four children – Bill, Scott, Matt, and Michael – his brothers Bob and Jim, his sisters Maureen, Lynn, Lisa, and Pat, his grandchildren – Jordan, Madison, Gillian, Sean, Nathan, and Gwendolyn – and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mike’s funeral mass will be held on THURSDAY, October 15, 2020 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Nashua, NH at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the New Hampshire Veterans Home Resident Benefit Fund.
