Michael Walton Obituary

Michael J. Walton, 62, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, August 2, 2025 at the High Point Hospice House in Haverhill, Massachusetts.

He was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts on May 23, 1963 and was the son of the late Harold Walton Jr. and Diana (Fonseca) Sansoucie. He graduated from Newburyport High School and is a US Army Veteran.

In the army, Michael trained as an Orthopedic technician and dedicated over 30 years of his life to Lowell General Hospital, with unwavering passion and care. His days were spent helping patients who often arrived in pain or distress, and he took it upon himself to bring them not just healing, but comfort and joy. Known for his creativity, Michael made each cast unique; personalizing them to reflect his patients' interests, whether it was a favorite color, hobby, or sports team. It wasn't just about setting a bone; for Michael, it was about lifting spirits. He took great pride in his work, and nothing made him happier than seeing a smile on a patient’s face when a simple cast became a small source of hope and happiness.

Throughout his life, Michael found joy in many passions and hobbies, but few brought him as much excitement as fishing, especially big game fishing, in the waters of Costa Rica, a destination he returned to time and time again. An avid traveler, he explored a wide range of places, from the quiet wilderness of Pittsburg, New Hampshire to the lush jungles of Thailand and Venezuela, always drawn to the beauty, food, people, and energy of the tropics. Michael was a true grill master, taking great pride in cooking for friends and family with his late brother Curtis at their very own “Grillville”, turning every meal into a celebration. His generosity extended far beyond his immediate circle; he volunteered countless hours with organizations dedicated to administering medications to those in need, always eager to share his medical knowledge to help others. Known for his kindness, wit (always with a hilarious one-liner), and genuine nature. Michael never met a stranger, and his friendly spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing such a remarkable man.

He is survived by his fiancé, forever sweetheart, and best friend Maryse Cote of Nashua; his two children, Cassia Leach and her husband Paul of Buxton, Maine and Tiffany Spinney and her husband Brian of Derry, NH; his four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jameson, Caleb, and Brison. Michael is also survived by his three siblings, Holly Walton, Harold Walton III, and Tammy Walton, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Curtis Walton.

At the request of Michael’s family, all services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael’s name to New England Breast Cancer Alliance, by visiting https://newenglandbreastcanceralliance.org/
