Richard A. Chapman, 89, a resident of Chester for the past 5 years and formerly of Maine and born in Nashua, NH, passed away peacefully after a long illness, surrounded by his loved ones in his home on January 28, 2024. Mr. Chapman was born on October 23, 1934, and was the son of the late Arthur Chapman and Minnie Dubois. He was the beloved husband of Doris (Lalmond) Chapman whom he met in 1980 and married in March 1985.
Richard was a graduate of Nashua High School and a United Sates Navy veteran, serving during the Korean war from 1952-1960. He was a third-class electrician’s mate. Following his honorable discharge, he became a Master Electrician and eventually the Business Manager for LU #719 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) from 1985-1989 Dover NH and then Assistant Business Manager from 1989-1998 Concord NH. He was the trustee/treasurer for LU #719 Pension Trust Funds from 1979-1989, Director of the Joint Apprenticeship Training Council from 1991-1998, Secretary/Treasurer of the Manchester Concord Building Trades Council from 1991-1998. Lastly, he was Vice President of the NH AFL-CIO from 1996-1998.
Through all of his accomplishments, Richard was an avid golfer that loved his weekends at the golf course. He was so talented, whether it was wiring a house, plumbing a bathroom or building a deck, he could do it, true jack-of-all-trades. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed immensely.
Richard is survived by his wife Doris of 44 years, his three sons Richard and his wife Jeannie Chapman of Vermont, Marc Chapman of Florida, Shawn Lalmond and Cynthia of Chester, NH, his daughter Peggy Cowsert of Stuart, FL, a stepdaughter Lisa Saez and her partner Michael of Worcester, MA, five grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Michael Chapman and a stepson Michael Lalmond.
