Rita Lavoie Obituary

Rita Edith (Roussel) Lavoie, 71, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. Rita is the beloved wife of Richard Lavoie, who were high school sweethearts, and attended her high school senior prom in 1968. They were happily married for 49 years.

Rita was born in Nashua on January 16, 1950, and was the daughter of the late Leona (Rioux) and Reno Roussel.

Rita graduated from St. Louis High School in 1968. For many years, Rita was employed for the former Indian Head Bank as a safety deposit officer and most recently was employed at TJ Maxx for 11 years, until her retirement in 2014.

In her free time, she enjoyed socializing with her many friends, spending time with family, long car rides to enjoy the scenery, reading, word games, trivia, and watching tv game shows; all to keep her mind sharp. She loved music, especially her favorite artist, Tom Petty, whom she was able to see in concert a couple of times with her husband and son. She was an avid volunteer for Corpus Christi Food Pantry and was a communicant of St. Louis de Gonzague Church, both in Nashua. She cherished all animals but cats were her favorite. Her beloved Pumpkie passed away in 2018. She then adopted her new “baby”, Minky, from Kittie Angels in 2019 and loved him immensely. He would always lay lovingly by her side when she was not feeling well. In her younger years, Rita also enjoyed Zumba and aerobics. Above all, her most cherished time was spent with her family whom she loved deeply.

In addition to her husband, Richard, Rita is survived by her son, Michael Lavoie of Nashua; her sisters, Denise Powers and her husband James of Mechanicville, NY and Terry Ouellette and her husband Lucien of Madawaska, ME; as well as her nieces and nephews, Keith Powers and his wife Courtney, Kevin Dumont and his wife Lynn, Mark Dumont, Jennifer High and her husband Michael, Paul Dumont and his wife Martha, Jeff Dumont, Lise Howson and her husband Kim, Tommy Ouellette and his wife Lynne, Peter Ouellette, and David Ouellette. Keith and David were also her godchildren.
