Robert Cernuda Obituary

Robert S. Cernuda, 70, died peacefully on January 7, 2022.

Robert was born in Havana, Cuba on August 29, 1951 and was the son of the late Armando J. and Irene (Sanchez) Cernuda. He obtained his GED at Nashua Senior High School and learned carpentry trade with his Dad from an early age; they built many homes in Nashua and surrounding towns.

For many years he worked in construction for Cernuda and Sons, Inc. and for Local 33 - Carpenters Union in Boston, MA; he later worked at Anheuser Busch in Merrimack NH for 26 years as a forklift operator and linestacker before he and his wife Maria both retired in 2017.

During retirement they made several trips to Hampton Beach in the early hours to see the sunrise. For the last five years of their retirement, they loved taking road trips for just no reason at all. Until COVID hit, Robert and his wife, Maria were both members of Main St. United Methodist Church.

Above all else, his most cherished time was spent with family but especially his children, Jennifer and Jason, granddaughter, Karissa, his three great grandchildren (Marilyn, Steven and Maci Ava) and his sister, Mercedes. He loved being of service to them and anyone that asked for his assistance.  He would generously offer his time and volunteer his services whenever he saw a need.

Robert is survived by his wife, Maria Antonietta Najera Cernuda; his daughter, Jennifer Guilmette and her husband, Darren; his son, Jason Cernuda and his significant other, Melissa Willette; his grand-daughter, Karissa Dery and her husband Steve; three great-grandchildren, Marilyn, Steven and Maci Ava (that he so adored...);  his four step-sons, Saul Najera of Nashua and Robert Najera, Cesar Najera and Walter Najera and their wives and step-grandchildren of El Salvador; four siblings, George Cernuda and his wife Betty, Olga Fernandez and her husband Mario, Hilda Slosek and her husband John, and Mercedes Cernuda, all of Nashua. He is also survived by nine nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews of Nashua; and many cousins in the US, Canada and Cuba.

He was predeceased by his ex-wife, Cheryl A. (Pettengill) Huggins, beloved brother, Pedro A Cernuda, beloved niece, Lucy Rodriguez, as well as grandparents (Alejandro Cernuda y Concepcion Fernandez and Luis Gabriel Sanchez and Angela Lopez Sanchez) and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
