Welcome to the memorial page for

George R. Prairie

December 3, 1933 ~ May 12, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

George Prairie, 83, of Nashua NH, passed away on May 12, 2017, at Greenbriar Nursing Home after a brief illness.   George was born in Lowell, MA on December 3, 1933, the son of the late George P. and Gladys (Laflamme) Prairie.   George had been married to Lorraine (Leduc) Prairie, who passed away on June 23, 2011, for over 50 years.

George was raised in Lowell MA, and he was a graduate of Keith Academy, class of 1952, Lowell MA.  George served in National Guard, and he was passionate of all military and military memorabilia.  In his earlier years, he was employed by Lowell Currier-Citizen making telephone books.  George retired from Brockway Plastics in Nashua, NH, and worked as a currier for Wingate Pharmacy in his retirement.  He was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish the Worker Parish.

In 1976, George was one of the founding members of Nashua REACT, and he was involved in the group for over 20 years, serving as an Assistant Commander for a brief time.   Nashua REACT was a group of CB enthusiasts and volunteers who helped the community providing crowd and traffic control at accident scenes, parades, fairs, car shows, road hazards, races, etc.  The group was in radio contact with Police and Fire and could report conditions so the authorities were up-to-date and able to assign their resources to other pertinent issues.   George frequently talked of the many friends he made on the police force through his Nashua REACT involvement.

George was the primary caregiver for his special daughter Melissa “Missy” Prairie, and he cared for her for a significant portion of her life until his health prevented him from doing so.   George cherished Missy, and was a proud parent and supporter of her past participation in Special Olympics.

George is survived by his three daughters, Melissa “Missy” Prairie and Anne Russo of Nashua NH and Tara Prairie of Manchester NH; his two grandchildren, Victoria “Torrie” Russo and Michael Russo of Chelmsford MA; his long-term Dunkin Donut friends who he referred to as, “The Gang”; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
