NASHUA- Virginia T. (Vassar) Garceau, 86, died peacefully Thursday evening, January 12, 2017  after a long fight with Alzheimer’s disease at Greenbriar Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife of Richard G. Garceau and now joins her beloved son, Robert G. Garceau who predeceased her in 1990.

Virginia was born in Nashua on June 5, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Royal and Wanda (Nartoff) Vassar.

For many years, she was employed as a production clerk at Ingersol Rand, formerly Impco where she was employed for 33 years until her retirement.

Virginia loved knitting and to her family was known as the “Best Knitter in the world.” She thoroughly enjoyed knitting baby hats and caringly donated them to the Boys and Girls Club, Elliot Hospital in Manchester, as well as Nashua Hospitals. Over the last 20 years, she attended and participated in many craft shows, selling her own crafts. Above all, her most cherished time was spent with her family.

In addition to her husband, Virginia is survived by her niece Kimberly O’Neil and her longtime partner Angel Rivera of Nashua and her nephew Scott Crooker of Milford.

Virginia was predeceased by her son as well as her two sisters, Regina Vassar and Helen LaPorte.

Relatives and friends are invited to Virginia’s Funeral Mass on WEDNESDAY, January 18th at 10 AM at St. Louis de Gonzague Church, 48 W Hollis Street, Nashua. Interment to follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Nashua.
