One of the first course I took as an incoming Freshman at St Amselm College in 1955 was Professor Lawrence's Bio course. I used to march up the flights of stairs to his lab several times a week and thought where are we going to go this week: country, ocean or mountains. Years later I discovered his interest in Canadian-American affairs and fifty years later here I am researching my Canadian heritage. I am truly sorry that I am not now able to share with him my interest.

Thank you Professor Lawrence.

Professor Lawrence taught me a life long passion for birding, and as a teacher and mentor, there was none better. I took his lessons and enthusiasm with me to far flung places whether it was South Africa, Thailand or France. Professor you will always be with me in spirit wherever I go.

I never actually met Roger in person. Roger helped me find out things about my family tree and reconnected me to information that a great great aunt of mine that sent it to him.I will continue to add to our family tree. Rest in peace and bless you for all you have done. I hope his family has peace in all the good he has done and he is remembered by many across the world. .

Dear Janine, Susan, Tommy and Greg,
I heard of your dad's passing the day before the funeral and could not arrange to be there. Our families have been through a lot together in our childhoods and all of you are special to us Stapanons. Your Dad lived a long and productive life and I have fond memories of him as my biology professor and friend. God bless all of you.

Sorry to hear of Roger's death. Being from Merrimack I knew who he was but it was a pleasure to bring him the Meals on Wheels dinners when he lived on Lawrence Rd.

Sincerely,

I am saddened to learn of Professor . Lawrence's passing. He was and still is an influence in my family. He introduced my boys to bird watching and my younger son, seven when he discovered this love, has made a career of this passion. And this interest continues to be passed as my two year old grandson has learned to spot and identify birds.

He was a blessing to my family that continues.

Roger, I will always remember the trek of a bunch of Explorer Scouts that you led along the Appalachian Trail. I hope, that wherever you are, there are trails to follow and birds to count.

As Roger's colleague of many years at St. Anselm, I'm reminiscing about his legendary status there. I had the pleasure of sharing chaperone duties with him for a senior outing. While in conversation he would leap from his chair to identify a bird for my benefit. One of the legends was that, faced by an unruly class he threatened to take them on one at a time--or all at once. Requiescat in pace.

My condolences to Dr. Lawrence's family. I knew him as a historian, genealogist, bird watcher, Scout leader and friend. He was so much to so many people, and the world will be sadder without him.

Sincere condolences to Roger's family. He was an inspiration to all who became members of ACGS. It was a pleasure when I last saw him and sat with him at dinner for the 40th anniversary soiree and conference. We all owe him a debt of gratitude for the knowledge he shared. R.I.P. Roger.

I am very sad to hear of Professor Lawrence's passing. He was a genuinely nice man who cared deeply for his students. He remembered and friended me immediately, years after my St. Anselm graduation when he noticed me at the genealogical society. I will always recall fondly the pride that he had in introducing me to others as his former student - DR Pinard (the emphasis was his). My condolences to everyone that he touched.

Roger was my birding mentor and a fine man and colleague. He made me work hard, I learned much from him, and, in turn, I try to be a good mentor to honor him. I've missed him since I moved away from NH, but he's often right there along with me, making me look and learn. Thank you, Roger, and my condolences to his loved ones.

"Doc" Lawrence was the epitome of what a teacher and mentor should be. How many young people's lives did he touch in his lifetime? I have a nephew, long out of school, who still talks about hawk watching with him as a child. As for me, I attended many an Audubon field trip with Roger when I was young, and he was unfailingly generous with his time, knowledge and friendship. I am particularly proud that my eldest son had a chance to spend a few hours with him, so that he too could say "I birded with Doc!"
Best to the family, particularly to Greg, with whom I spent many enjoyable hours in the field pursuing one of his father's passions.

It was a pleasure to have known Roger. He was a great mentor for many of us in the world of French-Canadian genealogy. I had the honor of bringing one of his life's works to fruition in the publication of his book, Captives and Prisoners Remaining in New France. It seemed to many of us that he was working on collecting data for this book for as long as we knew Roger. We are grateful to his family for sharing Roger with the genealogy community he spent so much time developing in Manchester and sharing with the world. His legacy will remain in our hearts for generations to come. My condolences to Roger's family and friends. Pauline Cusson, ACGS
